Mike was very easy to approach. When I first saw him at the party, he didn't seem like someone that fit into the typical "look" of others at the party. He had a pierced ear and buzz cut, and honestly I thought he looked like a wanna-be thug. That's probably why I chose him. When I approached him and told him about the project, however, he was totally cool and very willing.

"I've contemplated this many times," said 18-year-old Mike Mayfield, in Blue Springs. He liked the power of "morphism," which is the ability to transform into anyone or anything and take on their characteristics. "That way, if you encounter someone else with super powers, you could take on their characteristics, and they wouldn't seem so cool anymore." He also said that he would use his power for good. If he found out that someone was planning to blow up the world, he would kidnap that person, morph into them, and stop the person's terrorist regime from carrying out their plan, thus saving the world.

I really enjoyed this experience. It obviously revealed something about perceptions and first impressions. The person who I thought Mike would be was completely different from who he actually was. I guess that probably happens a lot in life, but it's little things like this that remind us. It also made me question how others see me and what their first impressions of who I am. I continued talking to Mike throughout the rest of the evening, and I found out later that he was actually a friend of someone that I know. Small world.
